"Victorian Mourning"
I visualized the Black that Victoria wore and added a bit of silver
and white to show off a piece of Jet Beading off of a Victorian garment.
The little beaded black balls are wonderful. I am showing you this one
as I had been reading of some of the strap ideas from the members. I
made 2 button holes and wove a tab that I put Victorian Jet buttons
on. You could have a series of tabs in different lengths to accommodate
different necklines. |
"Manchu
Princess"
I had a great piece of Jade about 3 1/2" by 2" The Jade is in a traditional
lock pattern so I wove a tab and slipped it through to hold it onto
the weaving then worked it back into the weaving. I used some water-colour
as the variegated portion that has subtle pink and green and it fades
into the green I used as the major colour. This one gets a good deal
of comment when it is worn. It is a clean design and shows the Jade
to good advantage. |

"Red Spell"
I found some interesting cotton sweater yarn that was a tweed
and
decided it might be fun to work with.
The straps are 3 Tweed braids on either side. They look nice when
tied.

"House in the
Forest"
I found a wonderful sterling pin of a little house so I decided
to see if I could produce a forest with trees hill and path for the house
to be sitting on. You can see the clouds and sky above the hills It worked
rather well. It is difficult to see but on the straps I separated into
three strands and made them in two colours with beads interspersed. They
have a nice open effect. |

"China's Charm"
The little Cicada that is on the end of the necklace tinkles
as you walk. Don't wear to church. He had appeal though, every one likes
this one. I think maybe the colours plus the little guy. |
"A Touch of
Delft"
This was fun because I was trying out using variegated Pearl
Cotton. It gives an expected charm. I have used it elsewhere and it
can be intriguing. I used beads made in China that are very reminiscent
of Delft pottery. |

"Saturn's
Rings"
Here I used my favourite gray and silver. Must
be because my hair is gray! I had four interlocking sterling rings from
something? The silver beads are slightly opalescent to give an ethereal
look. These items said use me in some way and this is the result. My love
of Science Fiction also played a big part with the tiny birth of a planet
inside of a wine coloured Nebula.

"Desert Dawn"
Have you ever been on the desert or up at the volcano and every
thing is black? Suddenly colours start to appear. You can see I used water-colours
again and thus the variegated flame tones. I beaded a long strand of beads
in gold, flame; yellow, etc. then folded it and then knotted it putting
one end attached to the triangular piece of brass. I anchored these on
to the weaving to give the whole thing some dimension and Desert Dawn
was born |

I keep more than one going as I tend to get
Knotters Block something much like writers
block and when you are working in threads I
would rather not undo to much. The thread that I am
using is what I use to
warp the weavings, a bonded # 18 nylon.
It is what you are using, only yours is the
waxed. Wax tends to be messy eventually. |
