More on Needleweaving design and placing bank pins

Needleweaving Online Project #1  Lesson #4

More Designing Ideas placing bank pins

Important Note about Bank Pins
This pattern has an uneven number of bank pins
across the bottom (19 GREEN dots),
and an even number of bank pins
across the top (20 RED dots).

Check to be sure that bank pins are correctly placed.
The pins across the top go BETWEEN
the graph paper lines on the RED dots.
The bank pins across the bottom go ON
the lines with the GREEN dots.

Notice here that if you moved any pins up or down on the pattern it would change the outside edge.
This is where all the different designing of the outer edge takes place.

Welcome to Lesson #4

Welcome to Lesson #4  * More on design and we are going to set the bank pins.

#1 Use graph paper or tracing paper when designing the inner part of the pattern, like Sue did in Lesson #3.  Draw the placement of beads, and even the colors of threads that you want to use. (Picture #1)  This gives you map, which you can change any time you need too.

#2 If you need bank pins (Picture #2), waxed linen or the Supply List Do not use t-pins, thread will tangle.

#3.The important information that I mentioned in Lesson #3 about bead placement is shown at the top of the page. (Picture #3)

#4.The Bank Pins are stainless steal, 24 gauge, 1 1/2" long pins. (Picture #4) When you push them into the foam core board at the correct angle, they will hold up to the pulling and tugging that is done with this weaving. Push the pins at a 30-45 degree angle as shown below.

If you have the book "Beads and Threads", this is shown on page 57, but it has the pattern in the center.  I like having it a little lower so there's more room for the straps that attach to the medallion part of the necklace.
