Welcome to Lesson #7

There are (6 Lesson Pictures ) in this lesson.  All large pictures for this lesson can be view at

#1 Sue adding beads onto warp threads.

#1b Do you remember seeing this in Lesson #2?

#2b This is a picture with beads added to warp threads

#2 Remove bank pin at the bottom and use the monofilament thread to string beads onto the warp threads. Use when you check beads to see if they fit onto the 2 ply waxed linen thread.

#3 Use crochet needle to attach beads to waxed linen warp threads.

#4 This shows a button turned upside down and attached to the center warp. If the item is bulky you can make a hollow in the foam core board so it will lay flatter while you are weaving around it. This shows how you work from the back of theweaving when you have a large bulky centerpiece. You can also attach the item after you finish weaving.

Welcome to Lesson #7
We will be adding the beads and the fun begins

You bead addicts will love this lesson.  We are going to start adding the beads (Picture #1 #1b). By this time you have moved beads around and changed your mind many times and you will be doing it in this lesson too. You have a tissue or grid drawing of the bead placement that appeals to you. Trying different arrangements is well worth the time you spend. When you start adding beads to the warps you will be able to see which will work best for you.  In the book "Beads and Threads", you will be able to see on page 60 how Helen recommends placing the beads on head pins which allows you to see how the beads will line up and hang together.

1. To add the beads to the warp linen threads, remove the bank pin from the bottom pair of warp linen threads which you want to add beads onto .  Put the piece of monofilament line between the warp threads.  This you learned to do when you checked the beads to see if they would fit on TWO strands of waxed linen threads. This is why I stressed the importance of this procedure in Lesson #1 (Picture #2 #2b).  Now the monofilament line becomes the needle, and you can pass both ends of line through the bead. Slide the bead past the line onto the waxed linen threads.  Add all the beads of your choice on that pair of warp linen threads.  Remove the monofilament line and replace the bank pin where it was before.

2. Some people prefer to use a crochet hook to attach beads (Picture #3).  After removing the bank pin from the bottom pair of warp threads, slip the crochet hook through the bead, then hook the crochet hook onto the pair of warp linen threads and slip the bead from the crochet hook onto the warp thread. You would then replace the bank pin.

"Beads and Threads" suggests that if you have an unusual piece for the center piece, slide it onto the warp face down and keep the warp threads on top of it (Picture #4).  You will be working and weaving on the back of the necklace.  When you weave, go completely across the back, covering the item. You may have to hollow out the part of your foam board so that the item will lie flat.  I personally have a hard time working from the back, because I want to see how it's going to look from the front.  One thing I would like to mention at this time is, the more you wash your hands while working on a weaving the cleaner it will stay.  If you don't do this, when you take the weaving off the foam board, you will see the difference.  Working from the back of your weaving does keep the front looking brighter .

Since you have a pattern grid or tissue drawing of your design, you can move the beads out of the way when weaving.  Remember to reposition your beads when you are ready to weave them in.

Enjoy the 7 bead pictures!
